Salmon oil vs. flaxseed oil Both salmon oil and flaxseed oil are rich in essential fatty acids. These are fatty acids that the body cannot make itself， while the body needs them to function normally. The big difference between salmon oil and flaxseed oil is in the types of omega 3 fatty acids. Flaxseed oil is particularly rich in 1 type of omega-3 fatty acid (ALA)， while salmon oil is also rich in EPA and DHA in addition to ALA.
